New England's coastline stretches for approximately 6,100 miles, winding in and out of small coves and bays as it goes. The constantly chnaging shoreline on Cape Cod in Massachusetts is made up of soft sand and 100-foot sea cliffs created by wave action. Cape Cod National Searshore protects 68 squate miles of pristine beaches, sand dunes, and lighthouses between the towns of Eastham and Provincetown. U.S. Route 6 runs down the center of the Cape making it easy to reach several small towns offering lodging, restaurants, and shops. We strolled Nauset Beach at sunset as the sky turned pink and the ocean shone silver in the reflected light. Marconi Beach is just a short distance up the coast. We visited the site of the first wireless transmission in history. It was made possible when Guglielmo Marconi created the apparatus to send and receive messages to England and ships at sea without the use of cables.
